Dr. Sudhir Rao
MD, ABAAHP
Dr. Sudhir Rao, MD, ABAAHP, was born and raised in New Jersey, but his inspiration to pursue a career in medicine began in a small town in India, where he witnessed his grandfather, a devoted general practitioner, care for patients with genuine compassion and dedication. Despite limited resources, his grandfather profoundly impacted many lives, leaving young Dr. Rao deeply inspired by the connection between medicine and humanity.
Dr. Rao graduated with honors from the University of Michigan, earning a Bachelor of Science in biopsychology, and went on to complete his medical doctorate at St. George’s University School of Medicine.
During his internship at GBMC (Greater Baltimore Medical Center) in Maryland, he focused on understanding the pathophysiology of the human body and exploring treatments designed to improve patients’ quality of life.
He later received distinguished honors during his residency in Neurological and Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center.
Dr. Sudhir Rao attained board certifications in anesthesiology, pain medicine, and anti-aging, regenerative, and functional medicine. His advanced medical training included an interventional pain fellowship at Mt. Sinai College of Medicine and a fellowship in metabolic medicine and nutrition, anti-aging, regenerative, and functional medicine at the University of South Florida.
Throughout his career, he has blended these disciplines to develop a unique approach to care that integrates traditional medicine with evidence-based functional and holistic strategies, addressing not just symptoms but the broader aspects of health and wellness.
Dr. Sudhir Rao’s professional experience includes serving as an assistant professor in pain medicine at Baylor College of Medicine and contributing to the advancement of the pain clinic at Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood, Texas. There, he introduced spinal cord stimulation and other advanced pain management techniques to treat soldiers with war-related chronic pain, finding it a great honor to serve those who served the nation.
Dr. Rao is the founder of Pain and Spine Specialists and The SCS Institute, where he focuses on delivering patient-centered care grounded in years of specialized training. His practice reflects his belief that achieving optimal health requires a comprehensive, whole-body approach that empowers both patients and physicians.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Sudhir Rao is also dedicated to community outreach, volunteering at his local hepatitis clinic through the Department of Health, exemplifying his unwavering commitment to improving lives.
